This change also applies to new messages. When you select your next email message and each message in the future, the lights will remain on as a default setting. This option only displays for the black theme. If you like the black theme but don’t want it to change the background of new and existing messages, that is, to keep the message background as white, choose File > Options > General, and then check the box Never change the message background color in the Personalize section.The toolbar button switches between the sunshine and moon icons. To change the display of messages back to the dark mode (black), click the moon toolbar option.This icon will either be found in the top-right of an existing message or in the Message tab of the Ribbon when composing a new message. To change this, that is, to turn the lights back on, click the sunshine toolbar option while viewing or composing a message. With Outlook 365, you’ll have the option to show a message with a white background.
So if you don't like how something is set up in Outlook, if you don't like the view, if you don't like the colors, then you can modify those, either generally for the entire set of applications, using things like theme, dark mode, and so on or specific to an application by switching to that application and then scrolling down to see the settings that are provided. If I switch to mail, I'll have a group of settings about how I would like to have my mail organized. I'm in the calendar, so I have settings about time and date and formatting. As you scroll down, you'll get to settings that are specific to the application. But if I have bold event colors, then my events will be very visible in my calendar. And then one more setting that has to do with appearance is when you have items in the calendar, a new appointment, for example, do you want it to show up bolded with a darker color? So if I turn this off, notice that my review down here at the bottom of the page is now a light color and only with a really dark band at this left side. But you can easily turn it on or off, however you wish. There are times of the day that I really love dark mode. And what dark mode does is it makes the light background dark, with light text on it. Now, what else can I change? There's a mode called dark mode. So I'm simply going to choose this theme. And you can click View All to go to a much longer list of themes that you can put into place. This is a theme I've chosen that's a mountain, but I have other themes that are available. You can search through them, you can browse through them, or you can click on View All Outlook Settings and go to another page and do that. I'm going to click on Settings, and all of the settings in Outlook are available from here. This is the default appearance of Outlook on the web, but there are some settings that we can change to alter how this looks.
